we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the
founding of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
here. First of all, may I express my warmest
welcome and sincere appreciation for all the guests
present here, on behalf of all Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering editorial department staff,
predecessors who have worked in Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering , readers and contributors
who care and support
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering !
Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has been
through 50 years of storms. On this occasion when
leaders, experts, scholars who care and concern
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
get together happily, may I make a brief report on the
development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
on behalf of the editorial department.
I.
Strong supports
The
development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has always been strongly supported by the country, all
levels of governments as well as China Association for
Science & Technology, and National Natural
Science Foundation of China. Especially, strong
supports come from Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering ’s sponsor Chinese
Mechanical Engineering Society and its organizer
Information Academy of Machinery Industry. In the
development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering , we received
great kindness and sincere help from lots of experts and
scholars in the field of mechanical engineering,
particularly members of editorial advisory board and directors.
For this, we always feel grateful and gratified.
In
the development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering , scores of academicians of the
two academies, and countless experts, scholars,
professors reviewed and revised contributions for
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering . When we felt sorry for
having not been able to give them reasonable payments,
yet they told us that, this is part of their academic
work.
In
the development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering , experts and scholars of
mechanical engineering have contributed their highest
level research findings to Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering .
When
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering was in
money difficulty, large numbers of experts and scholars
of mechanical engineering even helped us generously with
money.
In
the development of Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering , every expert and scholar in
the field of mechanical engineering has supported
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering with visible & invisible,
audible & inaudible actions.
Above
all things, on the occasion Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering celebrates its 50th
anniversary this year, we received congratulatory
letters from experts and scholars like Lu Yongxiang,
vice-chairman of NPC Standing Committee, Wang Buxuan
academician etc. The affirmation and encouragement from
vice-chairman Lu Yongxiang will be inexhaustible driving
force and fountain of power for the development of
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering .
II.
Glorious past
50
years ago, the old experts and scholars in the field of
mechanical engineering founded Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering . For 50 years,
generations of experts and scholars have accomplished
today’s splendor for Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering with
their youth and enthusiasm, with their heart and wit.
After
the founding of new China, through several years of
construction and development, the national economy and
sci-tech of our country have developed rapidly. The “1st
Five-year Plan” called for rapid development of the
industries in our nation, especially the heavy
industries. Under such a big background, Chinese Journal
of Mechanical Engineering was founded,
and several missions of Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering
have been put forward clearly in the opening statement.
Firstly, serve our nation’s economic construction on the
whole; secondly, introduce and learn from sci-tech and
advanced experiences of Soviet Union; thirdly,
popularize inventions made in production practice;
fourthly, publish creative articles of theoretical
research. And writings published during that period have
fully reflected that guiding ideology.
Founders
of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering are
a group of famous experts in the field of mechanical
engineering in our country, e.g. the 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd director of the editorial advisory
board, Zhuang Qianding, is a famous expert of power machinery,
and the founder of Mechanical Engineering Department of
Qinghua University. Among the several editorial advisory
boards
in 1950s, there are world-class scientist Qian Xuesen,
who is the “founder of China’s missile and satellite
sciences” and the bannerman of China’s sciences;
world-class scientist Wu Zhonghua who is the founder of
China’s engineering thermophysics discipline, and is
called by the international academic community as the
founder of “Wu’s General Theory”. Besides, there are
large numbers of well-known mechanical engineering
experts, e.g. Liu Xianzhou, Li Yousan, Zhu Jingzi, Lei
Tianjue etc. The opening statement for the first issue
is written by Shi Zhiren, the famous railway mechanical
expert, fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
(academician), former managing director of Chinese
Mechanical Engineering Society, and the then vice
minister of Railway Ministry. Now there are still lots
of well-known experts in the field of mechanical
engineering among members of the editorial advisory
board,
directors, reviewing experts and contributors.
From
its founding, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering has established the guiding
principle of making high-level journal, which has been
followed out all the while. It is embodied by three
aspects: firstly, adherence to a serious selecting
system; secondly, adherence to a strict editing system;
thirdly, elegant printing. Open the Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering published 50 years ago, the
high scholarship level of the writings, the preciseness
of the academic atmosphere, all tell its inner secret
that is scientific, cultural, and open. Open today’s
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering , what we
can feel still is it is developing, enterprising and
flourishing.
There
are some ups and downs in the development of Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering . After its
founding, Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has published a large number of the then
latest findings in the field of mechanical engineering,
among which there are a lot of leading writings
encouraging China’s mechanical engineering circle to be
trail-blazing. However, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering was forced to stop after its first
issue of the year due to the assault of the Great
Cultural Revolution in 1966. In 1979, the just reborn
mechanical science workers set about resuming the
publication of Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering . From then on, Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering
once again stepped on a development road that is stable
and fine. In 1988, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering launched
its English edition whose content is different from the
Chinese edition.
After
the entry into the new century, Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering has met the best time
for development. On one hand, 21st century is
a greater century. The fusion of modern sci-tech
(represented by information technology) and mechanical
engineering technology has advanced mechanical
engineering technology at all aspects and given
mechanical engineering a whole new meaning.
Automatization, intelligentization and informatization
are directions in which mechanical engineering
technology will develop, and new research findings of
mechanical engineering emerge one after another. On the
other hand, Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has become more mature through 50 years of
development, and it is recognized by large numbers of
readers and contributors. The two aspects have been most
beautifully and thoroughly described in the first two
years of the new century.
For
50 years, generations of Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering people, have committed
to the memory of the great trust from the country and
the nation, and actively devoted themselves to the
construction of motherland and the development of
mechanical engineering technology with great dedication
and sense of responsibility. They showcased the splendid
achievements of mechanical engineering technology with
their pen and paper, their heart and blood, their wits
and talents.
The
past years is just like a song, and here, let us express
our highest respects to them.
III.
Outstanding achievements
In
the past 50 years. Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering has published 3320 articles in 188
issues of 39 volumes. Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering (English edition) has published
921 articles in 57 issues of 15 volumes.
Besides
masterpieces of great masters and experts after they
made their name, there are even more dissertations and
innovative writings done by talents of mechanical
engineering technology in their growing process among
the articles published on Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering . “Silhouettes” of most of
the well-known mechanical engineering experts and
backbones working hard at the front line of mechanical
engineering familiar to our ears today, can be found on
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering .
According to preliminary statistics, there are hundreds
of articles written by academicians of Chinese Academy
of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering
At
the 50th anniversary of the founding of
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering , we
select 50 excellent articles, plus 15 of Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering (English
edition) through public appraisal. These excellent
articles are just examples of over 4000 articles. When
we are handling these writings, we feel from the bottom
of our heart that Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering is extensive and profound. In
particular, great articles written by Liu Xianzhou, Wu
Zhonghua and Qian Weichang who enjoy a high reputation
in international community, have vitalized our national
pride, and increased our love and enthusiasm for
Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering .
At
its founding, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering set itself as an international
journal. From the reform and opening, Chinese Journal
of Mechanical Engineering has put more
emphasis on international exchanges, and has made some
achievements. International friends, especially Chinese
overseas students often deliver their research findings
on Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering .
What's more, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering has established
journal exchange relations with academic groups in more
than 10 countries as U.S.A, Germany, UK, France, Japan
etc. Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering (English
edition) is distributed all over the world, and the
circulation is especially good in U.S.A and Germany. Now
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering can
be found in libraries in major countries. The articles
published on it can be retrieved by Chinese version EI
with a high retrieval rate, and that for English edition
is 100%, which effectively promote the exchanges between
China’s mechanical engineering technology and the
international community for mechanical engineering
technology.
In
the past 50 years, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering has been developing with the
development of mechanical engineering technology, and
today it has become an outstanding one among China’s
journal forest. And it has won many highest awards for
journals from the country.
In
1999, Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering won
the “1st National Journal Award”
commemorating the 50th anniversary of the
founding of China; in 2003, Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering won the “2nd
National Journal Award”; in 2001, Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering has been listed as a
“Two-high Journal”---highly recognized and high academic
level in Chinese Journals
Formation. It has reached the peak of China’s
journal awards for three times.
And
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering has
won the title of excellent journal from the Ministry of
Machine-Building Industry,
State Bureau of Machine-Building Industry and
China Association for Science & Technology for many
times.
From
1998, Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering has
received special financial aids for preferred journals
from China Association for Science & Technology
consecutively. And in recent years, it has received
special financial aids from the National Natural Science
Fund.
Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has
been collected by well-known international retrieval
systems as Engineering Index (U.S.A), Chemical Abstracts
(U.S.A), Science Abstracts (UK), Japan Information
Center of Science and Technology (Japan), Abstract
Journal (Russia) etc.
What’s
more, articles published on Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering have become one of the
important criteria for colleges, universities and
research institutes to be judged as qualified for
educating doctoral candidates, for appraisal of national
key laboratories, application of National Natural
Science Fund, report of projects as national sci-tech
projects, and appraisal of findings for national sci-tech
awards.
Science
and technology are the primary productive force, which
mainly spread through high-level academic journals.
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering is
one of the high-level academic journals in the field of
China’s mechanical engineering, and it has made its due
contribution to the development of China’s mechanical
engineering technology and the construction of national
economy when it develops itself. The development of
Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering
has driven the transformation of sci-tech progress and
research findings of mechanical engineering into
productive force; nurtured and brought up a large number
of mechanical engineering talents, Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering is a mentor and great
school for mechanical engineering technicians; promoted
international exchanges of mechanical engineering
technology. Her development and contribution to the
society have made more than just a journal.
IV.
Brilliant future
Knowledge
changes the world, and manufacture is the ladder with
which human beings evolve and develop. Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering is a great
volume of the development of mechanical engineering
technology. In 21st century, mechanical
engineering technology will keep on developing and
innovating, surely is Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering , and it will make its contribution to the
development of mechanical engineering technology and the
improvement of human society.
At
the turn of the century, Chinese Journal of Mechanical
Engineering has made a new leap.
However, we will always bear in mind our publishing
objectives. Keep centering on audience, serving readers
and contributors, set promoting the development of
mechanical engineering technology as the beginning point
and act with enthusiasm and composedness. Give full play
to the editorial advisory board and board of directors
to create a brilliant future for Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering .
To
pass on civilization is the basic obligation of an
academic journal, as a result, Chinese Journal of
Mechanical Engineering will dedicate its efforts
to the development of mechanical engineering technology.
It will bring into play its role as a pacemaker of
spreading mechanical engineering technology, and make
itself the bridge for the world to know China, and for
China to know the world. What we will pass on is not
just splendor and glory, but responsibility and
pressure.
With
respect to the specific development of Chinese
Journal of Mechanical Engineering , we need to keep
on innovating upon our publishing models and exploring
the road of development for academic journals with
Chinese characteristics in light of publishing
philosophy of international journals. Persist in serving
scientific research, the spreading of science and
technology, and the development of China’s mechanical
engineering technology. Persist in serving readers and
contributors. Direct more reasonable efforts to young
contributors in particular to discover and nurture more
young talents of mechanical engineering technology.
Persist in going deep into the field of mechanical
engineering, root deeply among readers and contributors,
reflect development practice of mechanical engineering
technology immediately, and enhance Chinese Journal
of Mechanical Engineering ’s pertinence, timeliness,
attractive power, and appeal.
Finally,
