Fei Renyuan, a professor in College of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Electronic Technology, is currently Director of University Library in Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) and Director of the Key laboratory of Beijing Municipality in Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
He graduated from Department of Precision Instrument and Mechanism of Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1965. Since then, he has been working at Department of Mechanical Engineering of BJUT. From 1983 to 1986, he made his further study in Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley as a Visiting Scholar.
He has been involved in machine manufacturing and its automation field research for over forty years. In 1980’s,he held the post of director of Beijing Industrial Robot Application Center and undertook the research of press robots and automatic press line with robots. He accomplished several key projects of municipality like projects of Research and Development of Press Robots as well as Development of Automatic Press Line with Robots, filling the gap of domestic robots in industrial application field. In addition, he was deeply involved in research of manufacturing system monitoring and false diagnosis area. He successfully managed and supervised 14 projects (state and municipal natural science foundation) like Research on Manufacturing System Running Status Monitoring by Multi-Sensor Integration Techniques, Intelligent Net-Monitoring & Supervision Techniques for Manufacturing System, Research on Chatter Control Base on Smart Structures, Research on Micro-Dissection Robot Based on Ultrasonic Vibration, etc. which dealed with sensor integration application, multi-signal fusion technique, intelligent decision-making, as well as smart materials and structures. Taking advantage of interdiscipline, he had made great achievements in manufacturing system monitoring.
He has a long and distinguished record as an innovative leader in the development of techniques for effectively representing and using knowledge in mechanical engineering. So far, he has supervised 15 PHD graduates and 30 MS graduates. He has over 150 refereed publications in journals and book sections, and 25 of them are cited by SCI, EI, and ISTP. He achieved 2 national patents in robots structure and intelligent vibration controller. His publication included Numerical Control Machine Tool, Mechanical Design and Analyses and Assembly Automation, etc. He serves as a Senior Advisor of Beijing Automobile Technical School, a Senior Member of Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering, Director of Chinese Society of Production Engineering, Chairman of Chinese Society of Production Engineering Beijing Branch, Vice-Chairman of Beijing Network-Library, Member of Beijing Academic Library and Information Committee, Associate Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering in China-Selected Publications from Chinese Universities and Modern Manufacturing Engineering, Editorial Board member of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, China Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology & Machine Tool. In 1995, he was elected to “Prominent Teachers in Beijing”. In 1998, he was listed in “Cross-Century Talents Project”. In 2001, he won Capital Labor Medal. In 2004, he was conferred the title of “Prominent Individual with Distinguished Achievement in United Front”
