 Liu Cai, born in Heilongjiang Province in January,1948. Graduated from North-east Heavy Machinery Institute (The Precusor of Yanshan University) in 1975 and got MS degree in 1981 in the same Institute. In 1982, he was sent to University of Birmingham in England for doctoral study and got PhD degree in 1986.
From 1986, he is engaged in teaching and research work in Yanshan University. In 1991, he was promoted as a professor, and in 1993, he enjoyed Government Special Allowance by State Council. Now, he is the President of Hebei Academy of Science, Vice-Chairman of Association of Science & Technology of Hebei Province, Vice-director of Metallurgy Association of Hebei Province, Professor and Doctor Supervisor of Yanshan University.
The research field of Professor Liu is mainly in the computer simulation of metal forming processes, such as rolling, forging, casting, drawing, extruding and cold-roll-forming. The main method which is used in the simulation is 3D elastic-plastic FEM and FSM. He developed some techniques and model in simulation method. By which the metal flow, strain and stress distribution, the microstructure evolution in the billet can be successfully in the process. According to the simulation results, the property and quality of the products can be predicted and controlled. The results are also used to new forming equipment and devices design.
Professor Liu has presided over many scientific and technology projects including projects from NSFC, NSF of Hebei Province, Research and Development Projects of National Mechanical Ministry and Hebei Province. And also presided at many cooperated projects with many enterprises, such as Shanghai Bao Steel, Dalian Heavy Machine Plant, Shijiazhuang Steel Corporation. The project “Computer Modeling of Industrial Forming Processes” has won Science and Technology Advance Award (2nd class) of the Ministry of Education,“The Theory and Experimental Study of Fabricated Rolling” has won the nominated award of National Science and Technology Advance and one invention patent.
Professor Liu has published more than 180 academic papers in the famous international and domestic journals, such as Int. J. Mech. Sci., Int. J.
Num. Enging. J. Material Proce., Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Iron & Steel, and were quoted more than 60 times by other researchers.
Took part in several International Conferences and took on the International Advisory Committees of the 5th International Metal Forming Conference in England
. Professor Liu has supervised more than 30 doctoral candidates and master students.
