 Song Tianhu was born on August 13, 1940. He graduated from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Tianjin University in 1963. He was Director of Harbin Welding Institute, President of Mechanical Academy of Sciences and Director of the Science, Technology and Quality Bureau of the Ministry of Machinery Industry. Now he is Vice President of China Machinery Industry Federation, Vice President and General Secretary of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Vice President of China Welding Association, Professor-class Senior Engineer enjoying the State Council’s subsidy, Chief Editor of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering. For years, Mr. Song has been working on scientific research and management of science and technology with significant experience in the mechanization and automation of welding process and underwater welding. With many papers published home and abroad, he won the State Technological Invention Award and the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award. His period as Vice President and General Secretary of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society has witnessed his successful organization of the 1st International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and the Annual Conference of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society etc, which has greatly improved the development and progress of manufacturing technology.
