Song Yuquan, male, was born in Zhangbei County, Hebei Province in June 1933. He is a member of China Democratic League. He entered Physics Department of Tianjin University in 1951, graduated from Physics Department of NanKai University in 1955 and then was assigned to work in Jilin University of Technology. He successively worked in the staff rooms of Physics, Metallography and Forging. He was an assistant from 1955 to 1978. He was promoted as a docent in 1979, an associate professor in 1980, a professor in 1985 and a doctoral supervisor in 1993. He was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 1997. Now he is the director of Superplastic & Plastic Research Institute of Jilin University, a professor of Materials Science and Engineering Department, an academic leader of Nation Emphasis Subject Materials Processing Engineering of Jilin University and is taking charge in subject construction. He is the honorary president of Jilin Intellectual Sodality, the board chairperson of Jilin Invention Association and the board chairperson of Changchun Expert Association. He has been working hard in teaching and researching. He used to teach 14 courses in such fields as Math, Physics, Materials Science and Plastic Processing Engineer etc and has directed 22 Masters and Doctors who obtained degrees.

The Academician Song Yuquan is a known expert in superplastic field. He systematically researches superplastic deformation and forming rules. His research findings that were found before 1988 and after 1988 on superplasticity were introduced in Chinese Science Bulletin and Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering (both in Chinese and English). They appraised highly that the research findings of Song Yuquan, et at, are systematic and integral on the mechanical theories of superplastic deformation and forming rules and are of innovation and breakthrough on theories and experiments, which makes the study on the theories of superplastic deformation be in a higher level. His research findings after 1988 are successive to his work before 1988. His research methods are more characteristic. His research contents are more systematic. In the field of Materials Science at home and abroad, his research findings go on keeping ahead.

Under continuous supports of National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), he systematically researched superplastic deformation and forming rules and obtained a series of innovations and breakthroughs on mechanical theories of superplastic tension, bulging and extrusion, experimental method and measuring instrument, which became his own theoretical system and research features. He has published more than 90 papers in superplastic field (over 50 are accepted by SCI and EI ). He has been awarded Fourth Prize of National Natural Science, the First and Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress of National Education Commission respectively, and the Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress of Electromechanical Ministry. He has 20 warranted patents (12 patents for invention).

After elected as a member of CAS, Song Yuquan makes a series of studies on deformation rules, forming process, dedicated device and measuring instrument in the field of successive partial plastic precise forming besides going on deeply researching on superplasticity. He has 12 patents for invention in this field and is elected as one of Ten Optimal Patented Inventors of Jilin Province in 2004.

Although Academician Song Yuquan has been in his seventies, he is energetic and diligent. He advocates decently behaving, steadfastly working, exploringly learning, innovatively dedicating and emphasizes on having both political integrity and professional competence, mostly having political integrity during talent train. Now he is directing 20 masters candidates and 13 doctoral candidates and taking on the teaching tasks for master and doctor. Furthermore, he is responsible for such scientific research tasks as National Science and Technology Key Plan Lead Project and Science and Research Emphasis Project of Jilin Province etc. In addition, he has been invited to be the editor by some national academic publications such as Science in China, Chinese Science Bulletin, Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Manufacturing Technology, Design of Engineering, Forging Technology and so on. The Superplastic and Plastic Research Institute leaded by him has 5 labs (Superplastic and Plastic Lab, New Equipment and New Process Lab, Digital Forming Lab, Instrument and Meter Lab, Surface Fine Machining Lab) and one center (Die Research Center). Two pilotscale experiment bases of integration of researching, teaching and producing are being built.
