HomeThe 8th Editorial Advisory Board of Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering (CJME)→Wen Bangchun

Wen Bangchun, born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province on September 29, 1930, graduated from Northeastern University of Technology(Northeastern University, after 1993) in 1955 and had been postgraduate from 1955 to 1957. Now Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Member of IFToMM (International Federation for Theory of Machine and Mechanisms) China Committee,Member of International Technical Committee for Rotor Dynamics, Member of Steering Committee of Asian-Pacific Vibration Conference, Honorary President of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering, Professor of School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation and Honorary Director of Mechatronical Engineering Research Institute, Northeastern University, Honorary Director of Academic Committee of State Key Laboratory of ‘Vibration, Shock & Noise’, Shanghai Jiaotong University.

Professor Wen has been Member of the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Member of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th Mechanical Engineering Subject Senate of the State Council’s Academic Degrees Committee, President of Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering and Chief Editor of Journal of Vibration Engineering, and he has been or be Pluralist Professor, Advisory Professor or Honorary Professor of more than 20 universities. He was elected one of the first group of middle-aged and youthful experts in 1984 and Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991. And he received the Government Subsidy of State Council in the first batch in 1990.

Professor Wen first set up and developed the new subject of ‘Vibration Utilizing Engineering’ in the world. He advanced the probability-thicklayer screening method, nonlinear dynamic theory and dynamic design method of several vibration machinery and theory of twice vibration isolation and corresponding computing method. He has developed the theory of vibration synchronization, such as the synchronization theory of self-synchronous vibration machines with planar motion and special motion, the synchronization theory of near-resonant self-synchronous vibration machine, self-synchronization theory with deflecting exciter, theory and method of vibration synchronized transmission, etc. And these theories and methods are admittedly regarded as the creative achievements. He also deeply studied the nonlinear dynamic theory of rotating machinery with faults and brought foreword the 1+3+X comprehensive design theory and method facing the general quality of products.

He has been awarded the international prizes (2 items), the third prize of National Invention Award, the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, the third prizes of National Science and Technology Progress (2 items), and the province or the ministry grade prizes (over 10 items), and achieved 7 national patents.

As a doctoral supervisor, Professor Wen has supervised over 100 graduates, in which 50 got PhD degree and 66 got master degree, also including 7 postdoctoral researchers and 2 foreign visit scholars. And now he is supervising 2 postdoctoral researchers, 21 PhD students and 17 master degree students. He presided over international conferences 4 times and edited in chief 4 proceedings of international conferences. He had also been invited to give lectures in Japan, Germany and Australia, etc., attended more than 20 international conferences held in USA, U.K., Canada, Spain, USSR, Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Czech, Italy, Finland, Malaysia, Singapore and Korea, etc. and gave keynote lectures many times. He has finished numerous state and transverse key research projects, including key projects of National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSF), general projects of NSF, 973 Project and 863 Projects etc., and many achievements of them reached the international advanced or leading levels and made remarkably economic benefits and social benefits.
