Prof. Zhong Binglin, born in Beijing in 1951, graduated from Nanjing Institute of Technology in 1977 and earned his master degree there in 1987. In 1994, he received his doctoral degree from the Cardiff University in the U.K. He has served as the President of Beijing Normal University since April 2001.

Prof. Zhong has worked in a variety of roles at university and the government, including Vice President of the Southeast University, Director General of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, etc. He currently serves as a professor at Beijing Normal University and Southeast University, a Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University and an Honorary Research Fellow at the Cardiff University. He is also a member of Academic Degrees Committee, State Council; Vice President of China Education Association for International Exchange; Executive Director, China Association for Higher Learning; a member of the Chinese Association of Vibratory Engineering; a member of Chinese Association of Mechanical Engineering; and serves on the editorial board of several prestigious journals, including Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, Journal of Vibration Engineering and International Journal of Neural Computing and Applications (U.K.).

Since the 1980s, Prof. Zhong has focused much of his research and teaching on machine monitoring and diagnosis, dynamic systems modeling and forecasting, and quality engineering. In recent years, he has led or participated in National Science Foundation projects, National "863" Projects and many Ministry-level or province-level research projects. He has published more than 50 essays and articles on science and technology in key periodicals, international proceedings at home and abroad, and written over 40 papers and articles on educational administration. In addition, he has edited or co-edited 5 monographs and textbooks.
