References have to be listed at the end of academic writings, which mainly play roles in: reflecting actual scientific basis; showing serious scientific attitude, i.e. be clear that it is one's own view or fruit or it is others’; giving respect for precursors’ scientific fruits as well as indicating where those materials can be found to convenience retrieval. Due to the fact that many contributors are not familiar with GB/T 7714-2005, bibliographic references are often described and cited in a nonstandard way, e.g. missing of bibliographic items, incorrect bibliographic order, references cited in an order different from that in which they are described and so on. To avoid this sort of problem, relevant regulations in GB/T 7714-2005 should be referenced to unify bibliographic rules for references.
GB/T 7714-2005 has laid down regulations on bibliographic items, bibliographic orders, symbols used in bibliography, bibliographic method for each item as well as how references should be marked in the main text for all disciplines and all publications. The standard is applicable to description of bibliographic references by contributors and editors, but not librarians, bibliography compliers and index editors.
