        Along with sci-tech development, material standard keeps changing, in order to publicize and implement new material standard to facilitate contributors and editors in recognizing and replacing old material designations, so as to save lookup time, the General Editorial Office of China Machine Press organized people in editing the volume.
        Edited in 1992, preliminary draft of the volume was revised and supplemented after trial use in accordance with the then latest standard in the final version in October, 1993. In April, 1996, the first revision was made; a second great change was made in March, 2000; and a third in July, 2003, whereby some general industry standards and uniform numeral codes have also been added.
