Abstract: This paper discusses the optimal motion of a piston fitted to a cylinder containing an ideal gas pumped with given with a given heating rate f(t) and coupled to a heat bath in the case of heat-transfer law q∝Δ(T-1)for a given finite amount of time. The optimal motion which maximizing the expansion work is obtained. Some applications of the optimal motion are also given.
