Abstract:
This paper presents a new engineering utility method (strip element
method) simulating 3-dimensional stresses and strain rates of strip
rolling. For cold strip rolling on a 4-h mill, the computed results of
the rolling pressure, the 2-directional friction stresses and the front
and the front and back tension stresses by the method are close to the
experimental results, which proves that it is feasible using the method
to simulate strip rolling process. Compared with 3-dimensional finite
differences method, finite element method and boundary element method,
the method has the merits of computing simplicity, economy and utility.
