Abstract: The organization, optimization and dynamical control of design assignments are key issues of product cooperative design. Existing methods for product cooperative design focus on the disposing of business process. They do not take into account the optimum way of distributing subtasks in design. An idea of “collaboration cell” is presented which is made up of designer, personnel cooperative agent (PCAgent) and design tools. A model of invitation and bid is put forward to reasonably deploy subtasks in product design based on PCAgent and task bulletin board, with the decision-making bid in PCAgent and the definition of Ability operator, Famine operator and Importance operator. The ”key path” method is also presented to control and optimize the period of design, which can inspect whether the task is reasonably distributed into subtasks or not. The experiment in engineering indicates the rationality and validity of all methods which provide the clearly theoretical foundation for the organization, optimization, deployment and control of all design assignments, and obviously improve the product cooperative design.
