Abstract: Quasi-static squeezing process of electrorheological(ER) fluid is studied. The mean compressive stress of ER fluid during squeezing process is measured under different electric fields. The Williams' s squeeze theory based on the generalized bi-viscous model is applied to calculate the variation of compressive stress with the amount of compression. It is found that the experimental and theoretical curves agree with each other, implying that the theoretical description of squeeze process of ER fluid is fairly reasonable.

Key words: Electrorheological fluid  Compressive stress Generalized bi-viscous
