Abstract: The side dam technology of the twin-roll strip casting is
discussed. The cause of the abrade wear and crack of the side dam are
analyzed, and two type structure of side dam such as integral type and
combined type were taken into experience. The results showed that the
combined type of side dam is good to improve the process stability and
prolong the operating life. The corrosion of the side dam in difference
steel grade is investigated, and difference kinds of refractory are
checked in the experience, in conclude, the zirconium oxide side dam is
the best material in combination property to fit for the strip casting
compared with the different refractory. Using the ANSYS finite element
analysis software, thermal analysis and thermal stress analysis of side
dam in the strip casting process are carried out to explain the cause of
side dam cracking.
