Abstract: A laminated removal micro electrical discharge
machining(LR-MEDM) method is proposed by combine the concept of
laminated machining in rapid prototype machining and of the electrode
uniform wear in EDM. The basic principle and carry out way of LR-MEMD
are studied and analyzed systemically. Especially to its key problems,
such as the electrode wear and its compensate policy, the electrode
movement planning in LR-MEDM. As an example, a simplified mold of IC
socket with 40 pins and a 3D surface are machined by LR-MEDM.
Experiments show that LR-MEDM can expectably achieve better machining
accuracy with much lower expense on almost any conductive materials, and
it shows great potential of application in the future.
