Abstract: Under
the conditions of continuous cutting, the abrasion wear is the principal
failure mechanism for the alumina-based ceramic cutting tools. The tool
life by wear is subject to the logarithmic normal distribution. The
classical and fuzzy reliability can be calculated by Monte Carlo
simulation in combination with the cutting experiments. It is proved
that the reliability is primarily affected by the fracture toughness so
that it can estimate the tool reliability by this parameter. The fuzzy
reliability is more reasonable than classical reliability.
