Abstract: Effect of load, time, sliding speed and stuffing on the
friction and wear characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is
studied using MPV—200 model of friction and wear tester under dry
friction condition. Experimental results show that filling PTFE with
MoS2, fiber-glass, graphite and carbon fiber stuffing can reduce the wear
of PTFE by 2 orders of magnitude, and graphite reduces the friction
coefficient of PTFE, but glass fiber and carbon fiber increase the
friction coefficient of PTFE. The friction coefficient and wear rate
will decrease with increasing of working time, in the end, they reach
stable value, at the same time, they will increase at first and then
reduce with rising of speed, furthermore, the friction coefficient will
reduce with raising of load, but wear rate will increase with raising of
load. Mechanism is systematically analyzed and discussed, the conclusion
in this paper possesses important theoretic significance for optimizing
of structure and property of material.
