Abstract: A two-dimension numerical model of heat transfer for
inertia welding has been set up, according to the characters of inertia
welding and friction theory. The distribution of transient temperature
fields of inertia friction welding can be predicted using this model.
The temperature is calculated taking a workpiece made of GH4169 as
sample. The temperature is measured by means of thermocouples. As a
result, the calculated data is in good agreement with the experimental
data. In conclusion, the model can provide a basis for technical
parameters optimization during the process of inertia friction welding.
