Abstract: To solve the difficult problem of cutting engineering
ceramics, the plasma arc cutting method with additional positive pole is
offered. The rationale, forms and characteristic of the method are
introduced. By means of cutting Al2O3 plates, the affect of each
re-confined condition on plasma arc and kerf quality is studied. When
the diameter of the nozzle is 4 mm, the kerf width is less than 5 mm and
the cutting speed reaches to 0.8~1.0m/min. The method is expected to
become an useful technology for cutting engineering ceramics.
