Abstract: Water hydraulics is a new technology using filtered natural
water as working pressure medium in hydraulic systems instead of mineral
oil with advantages of no pollution, fire resistance, low cost and
cleanness. Some key problems such as seal and bearing, friction and
wear, corrosion and cavitation erosion in water hydraulics are
described. The experimental research on friction behaviors of
ceramic/ceramic and polymer/stainless steel under water lubrication is
introduced. The major wear mechanisms of ceramics and reinforced
polymers in water are determined. The influences of heat treatments on
anti-corrosion properties of some stainless steels are evaluated through
salt spray test. It is suggested that low frequency fluctuation occurs
with cavitation inception in water hydraulic pump.
