Abstract: An impact between vehicle and roadside barrier is an extremely complex event and it involves in problems of human, vehicle and road (barrier). Based on analysis of factors that have influences on car impact with highway barriers, a mathematic method of computer simulation is used to develop car-barrier and occupant-car compartment impact models to study such accidents on highway. A parameter study on dynamics of the car and occupant and injury indices on occupant is carried out. According to the results got previously, improvements for barrier design is presented so as to reduce injury severity to occupant.

Key words: Car-barriers impact  Computer simulation  Dynamic response
