Abstract: In reverse engineering, in order to redesign a new patch based on rectangular topological trimmed region surrounded by several surfaces, two methods are proposed: skinning over a set of cross-sectional curves and least squares surface fitting. With the presented methods, the redesigned surface can interpolate given boundary curves and cross-boundary derivatives, and at one time interpolate or approximate the points within the trimmed region while preserving the G1 continuity and shape characteristics of the original whole model. In practical applications, the methods and solution paths are proved to be feasible and reliable.
