Abstract: Through the electromagnetic free forming of aluminum sheet, it is found that the sheet metals of different thickness have different deforming depth when they are in the same process condition, and in the experiment condition, for the materials of the same performance, the deforming depth of the thick sheet is larger than that of the thin sheet. This phenomenon is analyzed, and it is thought that it should be attributed to the reason that different thickness can lead to different equipment energy utility efficiency, and the most essential reason is skin effect. In the condition of same equipment energy, if the sheet thickness is smaller than the shin depth, then the deforming depth increases as the sheet thickness increases, and if the sheet thickness is larger than the shin depth, the deforming depth decreases as the sheet thickness increases. Also the method of how to get a maximal equipment energy utility efficiency is analyzed, the relation of equipment capacitance and inductance of discharge circuit is achieved. The research content is important for the process design of electromagnetic forming.

Key words: Electromagnetic forming   Deforming depth  Skin effect   Energy utility efficiency
