Abstract: The impact toughnesses of Mg-Y and Mg-RE alloys with
various compositions of yttrium and mischmetal are tested respectively.
The constituents of the phases in the investigated alloys are examined
by EDX analysis with microprobees. The microhardnesses of the phases are
analysed with microhardness tester. The experimental results show that
the maximum impact toughness of Mg-Y alloy is higher than that of Mg-RE
alloy and there are more dissolved yttrium in the matrix of Mg-Y alloy
than dissolved RE in that of Mg-RE alloy. The microhardness of matrix in
Mg-Y alloy is much higher than in Mg-RE alloy.
