Abstract: A
new kind of self-coupled damper composed of ER fluid and piezoelectric
ceramic is presented. The vibration characteristics of the damper are
simulated and the results show that the vibration suppression effect of
the damper is manifest. It is shown in the damper test that the
piezoelectric ceramic has stimulated the ER fluid. The damping of ER
fluid varies and hence the damper’s resonant frequency changes. The
maximum decrement of displacement amplitude can reach 30%.
