Abstract: The switched reluctance-type power magnetic bearing (SR-type PMB) is a kind of mechatronical part, which can not only support suspensefully but also drive directly the spindle.  After the investigation of the characteristics of average torque (AT) control strategy, a new strategy of the instantaneous torque (IT) control for the SR-type PMB, which reduces the torque ripple significantly and simplify the control algorithms greatly, is proposed. In the IT control strategy, the radial forces and the drive torque are produced by the cooperatively by several phases. A control system of the SR-type PMB, including a support subsystem and a drive subsystem, is analyzed. And the simulations of such a control system are reported for the verification of the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed instantaneous torque control strategy.
