Abstract: To
overcoming the limitations of the plaster-casting method in traditional
prosthetic socket fabrication, an innovative reverse engineering
application for reconstructing the bones and skin-soft tissues of the
residual limb is proposed. Given the two-dimensional image through CT
scanning, using image processing and reconstruction techniques, the 3D
solid model of the residual limb can be regenerated successfully. The
reconstructed models strongly resemble the original entity and the
approach can reproduce the internal and external structure of the
residual limb. In addition, it can provide a scientific basis for the
individualized prosthetic socket design in the future.
