Abstract: An
analysis approach and modelling procedure is developed to analyse the
transient contact temperature of tooth surface for involute gears.
Contact stresses of meshing gear teeth with standard and modified
profiles is analysed by using Hertz contact theory and finite element
method. The relative sliding velocity, the coefficient of friction and
frictional heat flux between contact tooth flanks are calculated. A 3-D
finite element model of gear tooth is developed to investigate the bulk
temperature of gear tooth. The flash temperature of tooth surface is
also calculated. Factors influencing the tooth bulk temperature and the
surface transient contact temperature of involute gears with standard
and modified tooth profiles are investigated.
