Abstract: Shakedown analysis of a thick-walled cylinder of
elastic-perfectly plastic material is presented in terms of the
twin-shear unified criterion. The unified analytical solutions of the
loading stress fields, the residual stress fields and the shakedown
limit pressure of the thick-walled cylinder are derived. The present
solutions not only include the results from the Tresca criterion, the
Mohr-Coulomb criterion and the generalized twin-shear criterion but also
give a series of new results which can take account of the intermediate
principal stress effect and the strength-difference effect and are
suitable for many kinds of materials. Finally, the influences of the
intermediate principal stress and the strength-difference on the
shakedown limit pressure of the thick-walled cylinder are investigated
by the present solution. Results show that the shakedown limit pressure
increases if the intermediate principal stress effect and the
strength-difference effect are considered.
