Abstract: Based on the analysis of one–point contact of wheel and rail, the computational model for two-point contact resulting from cone-tread wheel flange close to rail is established. The problems between wheel and rail are analyzed by using the finite element parametric quadratic programming. The results of the changing laws of wheel/rail contact states and force, which are obtained from computation of two-point contact problems between wheel and rail carried out under various loads, would be helpful for finding methods for reducing wear of the wheel flange and side rail.

Key words: Two-point contact  Finite element method  Parametric quadratic programming  Wheel/rail contact force
