DEVELOPMENT
OF A NEW HOT FORMING
TECHNOLOGY
FOR HEAVY RETAINING RINGS

Abstract: In accordance with defects of cracking, long processes,
poor controllabiitiy, uneven structure properties during open-die
forging processes for highMn-N alloy steel heavy retaining ring forging,
a new saving force technology is developed by considering the practice.
The punching-extruding, expanding-extruding complex hot forming of two
punches with an outer ring is included in this technology. And the new
technology is studied with both thermomechanical, numerical simulation,
and test engineering design. Comphrehensive and systematic data of
retaining ring forging are obtained. The technology is put into
practice.
