Abstract: A
reversible axial flow fan is required to run with high aerodynamic
performance both in forward direction and in backward direction. S-type
blades are usually used in such fans because of the absolute geometrical
symmetry. A new S-type blade with high aerodynamic performance is
constructed based on the NACA digital airfoil series. By simulating the
flow field in the fans based on Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes
equations, the method of orthogonal design is implemented to design the
flow path of a reversible axial flow fan with S-type blade. Choosing the
parameters of blade shape, torsional angle and clamping angle as design
variable parameters, an optimum flow path of a reversible axial flow fan
with S-type blade is obtained.
