Abstract: In the digital measurement for free-form surface, image
mosaics are needed to achieve the whole measurement for the small
measuring field of sensor unit. The idea of viscous target for free-form
surface measurement is presented which refers to the concept and the
applying of control points in the photographic measurement. According to
the comparisons about the styles of some viscous targets, a planar
multi-arc viscous target is designed. With similar features, viscous
targets can be pre-located automatically and can be located accurately
by ellipse fitting. Location precision of the method excels 0.05 pixels.
