Abstract: It is common knowledge that there exists no the closed form
of the bearing forces especially under Reynolds boundary condition. The
unsteady Reynolds equation has to be solved generally by the methods
such as finite differential method and iterative method which are rather
time consuming in the nonlinear dynamic analysis of sliding bearing.
According to the regular form of the tiles of journal bearings and the
simple solution of the axial pressure distribution, the two-dimensional
variational inequality can be decreased to the one-dimensional problem
and a direct solution method is presented. No iteration process is
needed to solve the pressure of nodal points and the bounds of cracked
oil film. Compared with the results of two-dimensional finite elements
method’s algorithm, this error decreases to about one percent and the
computing time of the direct percent solution method can also be reduced
to one percent
