NC-BASED METHOD TO REDUCE ERROR CAUSED

BY ELECTRODE ORBIT IN EDM

Abstract: There is machining error in electrical discharge machining (EDM) due to the electrode’s orbiting. The NC (Numerical control)-based method is proposed to eliminate the error, by modifying the NC codes of electrode 3D model according to the orbit pattern and orbit radius in EDM. Based on the method, a software system is built to process NC codes. Prior to the electrode machining, this software system processes the NC codes which is used to machine electrode and outputs the new NC codes which has the same format with the old one and can be used to machine electrode. Several experiments are made to test this method, and show that the NC-based method can effectively improve machining precision in EDM.
