Abstract: A novel static micro-mixer is described which is designed
according to micro-fluidic characteristic. With the staggered oriented
ridges in micro-channel, transverse components of flow are generated.
This means can reduce mixing length, and enhance molecular diffusion
processes. Computational fluid dynamics method is applied to
investigate flow field of this static micro-mixer, and gives the mixing
principles of this micro-mixer. Rhodamine dye mixing experiments, as a
flow visualization method, are carried out to show the development of
mixing process and performance. Standard deviation of the intensity
distribution in the images of the exit of the micro-mixer is used to
quantify the degree of mixing as a function of the structural parameter
and of the flow rate.
