Abstract: Plunge shaving is a high efficiency, high precision methods
to finish gears. But it is difficult to profile plunge shaving cutter. A
new technique, which is named for modifying and grinding the shaving
cutter on the shaving machine, is put forward. Its principle is that a
diamond dressed gear is clamped in place of the workpiece in the
machine, and profiles the cutter as shaving. The mesh theory of the
technique has been analyzed. The equation of mesh, equation of gear
flank of shaving and profiling are obtained and the analysis of example
is presented. It is proved that the new technique is an applied method
with many advantages by experiments.
