Abstract: To introduce the technique of suppressing vibration by electrorheological (ER) effect into machining system, an ERF damper of lathe carriage is developed; In virtue of rheological oscillation test, the additional damping and the additional stiffness in this system are obtained, and the vibration response of machining system equipped with the ERF damper of lathe carriage is analyzed theoretically; A prediction-control system of machining tool cutting vibration based on ER effect is developed, the experiment has proved that the machining chatter can be predicted and controlled effectively by use of the system based on ER effect presented.

Key words: Electrorheological effect  Cutting vibration  Prediction control
