Abstract: The process of a particle penetrating into material and sliding on the surface, then unloading is analyzed, the characters of stress, strain, contact pressure and friction shearing stress in three contact stages are studied. It is shown that micro contact process of a particle against material surface is not only affected by the nonlinearities of material and contact state, but also affected by the nonlinearity of deformed surface shape as a result of rubbing. The stress, strain and contact pressure of material surface is related to the surface deformation process.

Key words: Abrasive wear  Friction contact  Surface deformation  Finite element
