Abstract: The effects of the diamond tool on the ductile to brittle
transition of the glass in ordinary cutting, conventional vibration
cutting and ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting are investigated
experimentally. It is understood that the critical depth of cut for the
ductile cutting of the brittle material in two kinds of ultrasonic
vibration cutting can be increased as compared to ordinary cutting. The
theoretical formulae for the critical depth of cut in ultrasonic
elliptical vibration cutting and conventional vibration cutting are
derived theoretically. The reasons for the increase of the critical
depth of cut in ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting and conventional
vibration cutting are analyzed.
