Abstract: A computational analysis of flow field inside the pump decrease efforts and costs in the predesign stage of design and development. The flow in the pump is simulated numerically with the N-S equations, the unstructured mesh finite volume method and the k—ε turbulence model. The sliding mesh model is used to predict the time-dependent flow and a curve (head versus time) adequate basic biocompatibility is attained. The effects of guiding blade on the head of pump and the flow field in the pump are described. Some useful results are gotten, which may be valuable to the design of the pump.

Key words: Microaxial blood pump  Flow field  Numerical simulation  Guiding blade
