Abstract: Design
for product family is an efficient way to guarantee the idea of mass
customization to be implemented successfully, which is also an extension
onto the conventional methodology of product design. A kind of
methodology of product family design, which aims to provide
methodological guidance for manufacturers who plan to implement strategy
of product family design, is presented. In contrast with the
conventional methodology of designing for single product, the methods of
requirement modeling, function- principle modeling, and structure
modeling in details according to the different design stage are
respectively illustrated.
