Abstract: A novel method of diagnosability analysis of manu- facturing systems is presented and the necessity and sufficient condition of fault diagnosability of manufacturing systems is derived on the basis of developing state space model of a manufacturing system for lack of studies of manufacturing systems diagnosability for quality control and diagnosis ability of partially diagnosable systems. Diagnosability indexes are constructed for a partially diagnosable system. The validity and feasibility of the proposed method and indexes are demonstrated by an illustrative example of an assembly system with varied system deployments. The proposed method lays a theory analysis foundation for measurement of diagnosability, optimization of system deployment and in-process fault diagnosis.

Key words:  Quality control  Multi-stage manufacturing system  Diagnosability  Fault diagnosis
