Abstract: The magnetic forces and dynamic deformation analyses for tube-compression by electromagnetic forming are performed by coupled fields FEM numerical simulation. ANSYS is used to calculate the transient magnetic forces acting on the tube, which are used as boundary conditions to model the high velocity deformation afterwards. And coupling is realized between electromagnetic field and structural field by updating the tube geometry and the magnetic forces. The results show that distributions of the magnetic forces acting on tube and the radial displacement of tube opposite the coil are not uniform; the distributions of magnetic flux density and magnetic forces can be explained indirectly with the tube deformation; the results of coupled fields numerical simulation are more reasonable than that of half coupled simulation when the tube deformation is bigger, and both results of the two methods are approximate when that is smaller. The final tube shape of simulation agrees well with that of experiments.
