Abstract: The damage initiation and development of laminated composites can be simulated by progressive damage analysis. A 3D progressive damage model and finite element method are used to analyze the damage process of laminated composites with a hole under compressive load. The matrix-cracking, fiber-matrix shear, delamination, and fiber breakage are all considered. Based on the software of ANSYS, a parametric modeling program is developed to predict the progressive damage process and ultimate strength of laminated composites with any layer direction angle and layer thickness. The validity of the analysis method and program is proved by the comparison between the predicted result and experimental data available in the literature. The predicted precision of ultimate strength may be improved by the program, which provides technical support for the design and use of laminated composites.
