Abstract: Through the numerical analysis of the flow fields of the synthetic jet actuator in the quiescent air, the adjustable characteristics of “saddleed points” appeared on the synthetic jet flow fields are obtained. The control rules of the synthetic-jet-based micro-pump are obtained by analyzing the characteristics of “saddle points” on the synthetic jet flow-field. Then the micro-pump at the dividing-clapboard on and off control conditions are simulated and compared. The micro-pump acts on the designing conditions, the synthetic jet vortex pairs develop sufficiently when adjusting the forcing condition and the position of dividing-clapboard with the control rules. But the micro-pump acts off the designing conditions, the pump flux decreases with a sharp drop when only adjusting the forcing condition, for the dividing-clapboard locates in a key region and baffles the development of the synthetic jet vortex pairs. The results indicate that the micro-pump flux can be adjusted efficiently by the dividing-clapboard, and the control rule can satisfy the claims of adjusting the position of dividing-clapboard. Further, a control rule of electrical parameters can be put forward when achieving the relation between the vibration amplitude of the diaphragm and the forcing electrical parameters, and an intelligent control of the micro-pump can be realized.
