Abstract: It is meaningful for improving the design originality that enhancing the degree of concurrent design and enabling the designer to seek as more new solutions as possible separately. A rational and effective scheme of function module partition is the key. After analyzing the inner and outer factors affecting modularization, rules of function module partition for creative design are presented, the rules are formalized and quantified based on generalized directed graph and improved house of quality. Steps of function module partition are given and a fuzzy clustering based arithmetic is presented, a mathematic evaluation model based on degree of coupling is established to decide the right scheme of function module partition. The method is proved applicable and effective in an instance of function module partition of motorcycle-hydraulic-disk brake.
