Abstract: It has been proved by physical simulation that there exist radial and tangential tension stresses in the central zone (except the rigid zone) of the deformed body when a circular cylinder in upsetting between common flat platens. The method of physical simulation is new, simple, reliable and practical.

Key words: Physical simulation  Circular cylinder  Upset  Tension stress
