Abstract: Successful cutting power monitoring and adaptive control strategies are based on the correct understanding of the relationships among measured power signals, mechanical systems, tool condition, and various process parameters such as spindle speed, feedrate, cutting depth, and so on. Input power of a spindle driving AC asynchronous motor in milling will be modeled to provide a basis for the investigation of these relationships. The model is verified with simulation and milling experiments.

Key words: Cutting process  Monitoring  Control  Tool wear
