Abstract: Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) is a new optical machining technology. The mechanism of magnetorheological finishing is analyzed, the finishing experiment of optical glass of MRF is conducted through changing the finishing parameters such as relative speed of finishing disk and workpiece, magnetic field intensity, finishing duration, and the effect on the finishing character of optical glass by these parameters is analyzed on the basis of Preston equation. Measured by an AFM, the finished surface roughness of optical glass is Ra=1.015 nm. It's proved that MRF is an effective machining method to get high quality optical surface.

Key words: Finishing  Magnetorheological fluid  MRF  Optical glass
